Bansko ski and golf resort
Bansko is a small Bulgarian town at the foothills of
Pirin Mountain – a natural conservation area on the World National Heritage List – just an hour and 40 minutes’ drive from the capital Sofia.

|
Pirin is the second highest mountain in the Balkans with two peaks above 9,500 feet. Tucked away in the Bankso - Razlog valley, Bansko offers the charm and romance of a traditional Balkan town that dates back to the 17th century. Rennaissance
architecture complements the many historic monuments and museums in the region, which is also famous for its gastronomic
flair. Recently, the annual Bansko Jazz Festival and Pop Concert has gained the town international recognition. Bansko is served by a scenic narrow guage railway, which showcases the surrounding mountain peaks, lakes and old pine woods. |

Bansko is considered to be the best ski resort in Eastern Europe and the fastest growing. A total of 50 million euros has been invested in the past two years, with 40 miles of marked and maintained ski and snowboarding runs, all regularly maintained by 12 snow grooming machines. Almost half of these runs are equipped with facilities for artificial snow, produced by 44 cannons which guarantee quality, crisp white snow from December until late April. |
With the development of the first 18-hole Championship golf course, as well as the projected second 18-hole international class golf course both at Pirin Golf and Country Club gated community, Bansko is becoming the first year-round ski - golf resort in Bulgaria and southeastern Europe. There is the added attraction of spas, based on the abundance of warm mineral springs. Under-developed summer sports and leisure events are now being offered in Bansko, including horse-riding, fly fishing, hiking and walking.
There are also plans to re-develop an existing military airstrip into a local airport, 30 miles away, capable of serving low-cost airlines.
